It was late in the afternoon.
A 30 minute drive, which was a bit hard even after resting all day. I was 20 minutes late, because I had to stop and rest on the way. I was also a bit apprehensive, like every patient who is referred to a specialist for the first time.

He looked much more tired then me, after working hard for the entire day. I could imagine how after a long day at the hospital he had to run to his clinic. I almost apologized for bothering him with my own minor problems.
"Why was a young healthy looking woman like you referred to me?" He asked.
He then went over my referral letter, asked a few questions and then briefly examined me- asking me to look up, look down, smile, push his arm, walk a few steps on my heals, tiptoe, squat, get up (I had to hold onto something for that, but he didn't seem to notice or care).
"Well", he said, sitting back at his desk. "Your muscle strength is quite good. I cant find anything wrong. There are many reasons for fatigue. You are probably just over-worked like all of us", he said with a wary smile. "If you want I could do some more tests, like an EMG, or I could give you a trial of a medication". He added. "But its not really required. I think you should just take some vacation." I could clearly see that he was longing for one.
His words were very reassuring and made perfect sense. This was I thought all along. I was just a bit overworked just like him. He too seemed to find it hard to keep his eyes open at the end of the day. I gladly left his office, with a reassuring letter I could show all those who were concerned about me.
